How can I get prepared?

Again, communication is crucial. Have a plan for contacting friends and family in an emergency situation. Here are some tips:

Keep contact information for friends and family handy

This will help you to contact the people you need to reach quickly and easily in case you need to share information or plan to meet.

Keep emergency kits at home, in your car and at work

Kits can include such things as bottled water, canned or dried food and a can opener, medical and first-aid supplies, prescription and over-the-counter medication, and a radio and cell phone. A good rule of thumb is to have enough supplies to last 10 days. You don’t want to be scrambling at an overcrowded supermarket. If you have special medical needs, be sure to keep a list of those, plus a list of prescriptions and medicine allergies.

Keep your eyes and ears open
