Does Mizzou have a plan for pandemic flu?
Yes. Officials at Mizzou plan for all types of emergencies in conjunction with local, state and federal government agencies. Communication is crucial. The more people know about planning and prevention, the more they can be ready if it happens, and the less they need to panic.
Mizzou administrators and MU Environmental Health and Safety have plans for handling pandemic flu, including keeping people informed and handling specifics for students, faculty and staff on campus. Likewise, University of Missouri Health Care has plans to handle a likely increase in sick people and to help prevent the spread of such sickness.
In case of pandemic flu, people should stay tuned to campus information and local and national news sources to find out how to proceed. Because pandemic flu would be a new flu virus, scientists could develop a vaccine after studying and identifying the virus. Once that happened, information would be distributed about how to get vaccinated. (On a side note, some research has shown that current vaccines may at least be partially effective at preventing new strains of a flu virus.)
In addition to campus, local, state and national planning, you should have your own personal plan, too.
